Room 21 Grade 4/5 - Week 21 - 1/27/12 – 2/2/12

Progress Reports have been distributed to all students, and missing assignments have been given to each student so that they may make up their work. Monday and Thursdays are the best days to check your child’s grades. I will do my best to up-date and record their assignments. The user name and password must be entered on Power School to gain access to the grades for the third grading period.

The Super Bowl is set. Will it be the New Your Giants, or the New England Patriots? Catch it all on February 5, 2012

Welcome to the 4th week of 2012! I have seen much growth from your children academically and socially. The students have worked very well together, and there is a family orientated atmosphere in this class. I appreciate the support from all the parents, and their help when it comes to monitoring the homework at home. I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year! In 2012 we will continue to pursue additional growth in all areas of learning.

This weeks schedule: Wednesday is an early release day. Keep reading and review the Math worksheets that will be going home. Students should continue to fill their folders with work that has be returned. If you get the chance, please review your child’s completed work with them. We have outstanding learners in our class.

Tutoring will continue, for our class it is held each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 3:15 – 4:00pm. If you would like your child to stay and receive help on homework, or additional help in another subject, they can. You will need to provide transportation. All are welcomed to attend; currently we have from 4 – 8 students staying each day for additional help.

Kagan Structure teaching methods are incorporate each day last year. Please ask your child each day about how they are learning in class. You may find more information by visiting www.kaganonline.com

Specials schedule: Monday – Library, Tuesday – Art and Library, Wednesday – Music, Thursday – Art, and Friday – Physical Education

The next Spelling test this quarter, will be over unit 21 on Monday, February 6, 2012

I have included a list of student friendly objectives at the bottom so that you may sneak-a-peak at what your child will be working on this week.

Please try to have your child read 30 minuets each day.

Student writing and math journals are a great resource for homework help. Each child is creating their own journal as the year goes on. Have them teach you something new a home. It’s a great way to get the discussion started, on what is happening at school.

Parents, one reason homework has been taking a few more minutes each day, is because some of our class members, have failed to practice their time tables at home.

Multiplication tables need additional work. In order for us to move quickly, I would appreciate any help you can give your child at home. Flash cards are always helpful, and for those of you with computers. www.mathisfun.com is another place to reinforce these skills. Try the math trainer for multiplication.

Student planners should be used daily to record important school information. Daily homework should be listed in their planners as well.

Temperatures are expected to be in the 70’s this week. Winter is taking a vacation here in Ajo! Please continue too make sure your child is drinking plenty of water. Water bottles may be brought to class. The AR goal for the 3rd week period will be 15 points, which includes 3 chapter books.

Starting time for school is 8:15a.m. Please keep students off campus until after 7:45a.m.

Parents, to help you child prepare for the next school day, I would recommend that you say no to video games prior to all school days after 8:00 p.m. REM sleep is very important to the success of you child’s education.

Students with computers at home are urged to work on math drills www.aaamath.com during the school year. Additional homework assignments are available on Ati-online.com

School can be very exciting! It can be as exciting as having your favorite team in the Super Bowl XLVI.

Parent/ Teacher Conferences for our class were a big success at the beginning of the year, and during the scheduled fall conferences. I appreciated the turnout and the many positive things you had to say about your child’s first 9 weeks. It is always very helpful to hear that your child is talking too you, about their day at school. Our goal is to keep you informed, keep the dendrites growing, and stretching each school day.
