In this lesson, students learned about the 1950's artist Wayne Thiebaud and his landscape oil paintings. Thiebaud's aerial views are full of patterns and bright colors. After viewing his work, the students used aerial photographs from the book The World from Above by to create sketches of their own world from above. The students were to focus on aerial perspective and at least five different patterns. After their sketches were finished, the students chose between white or manilla 12 by 18 inch paper. The students colored their drawings with oil pastels and then watercolor paint. This lesson reinforced the wax resist technique introduced in the previous art lesson.
