In this lesson, the students learned about the artist Vincent Van Gogh. The students read a biography of Van Gogh and answered questions about his life and artwork. They also did a critique of his famous painting, "Starry ,Night", noting objective and subjective observations. The students chose one of two Van Gogh paintings, either "Starry Night" or "Vase with Twelve Sunflowers" to sketch as accurately as possible. Then the students worked on mixing oil pastels on black paper to create their own version of these two oil paintings from Vincent Van Gogh. After all the drawings were finished and displayed, the students critiqued the work of their peers. | ![]() |
