Our Governing Board

The individuals on our school board are elected community members who volunteer their time for the benefit of our school district and the students who attend our schools. They assist the district in planning, budgeting, and implementing school programs and help ensure fiscal responsibility.

The AUSD Governing Board, in collaboration with the Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA) staff, focused on setting goals for the governing board.
These goals will serve as a guide for the governing board and administration throughout the school year in Ajo Unified School District.
Governing Board Goals:

Goal 1: The governing board will receive beginning, middle, and end of the year student data with a focus on reading scores demonstrating growth on the DIBELS Reading Benchmarks and Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Benchmarks. We will implement instructional strategies, resources, and professional development such as Beyond Textbooks (Professional Learning Communities, formative assessments, reteaching, data analysis), and mClass training to support reading growth.
Goal 2: Communication will be strategic and collaborative with all stakeholders. This communication will establish trust and build relationships with students, staff, families, and the Ajo Unified School District Community.
Goal 3: Ajo Unified School District will continue with the strategic direction focused on the critical academic areas of opportunity for our students. Administration and the leadership team will make sure that curriculum and instruction resources (Beyond Textbooks, mClass, reading intervention, math, and science curriculum) align with state and district standards.

We welcome all community members to attend our regular board meetings. In accordance with the Pima County Board of Supervisors and Arizona Revised Statute, we post public meeting notices for the Ajo Unified School District Governing Board outside the district office 24 hours before the start of each meeting. For your convenience, we will also post public meeting notices on this page.
