2020 Graduating Class Commencement Letter

The closure of all K–12 schools in Arizona has created frustration for students, school staff, and families across the state. Online instruction or the receipt of packets of work without teacher face-to-face explanation is different for most of our students.

In addition to the change in classwork and instruction, Superintendent Dr. Bob Dooley said, “There is a sense of loss for many students.” He added, “Students miss teachers’ support and the social aspects that a school setting provides. All students feel this, but those in the later years of high school realize that many of the traditions that other high school classes enjoyed are not available to them,” Dr. Dooley explained. “High school graduation is a significant milestone in young persons’ lives,” Dr. Dooley said, and “The class of 2020 feels that the loss of this celebration has exacerbated their loss of the last seven weeks of the traditional school year in the Ajo Unified School District.”
